The other night watching the Grammys, I found myself comparing the church to an award show. Yes we enjoy bands and large crowds, especially when so many non believers attend. Yet that wasn't what caught my attention. What caught my attention, was the variety of people and the different genres of music. The Grammys seems to accomplish something MTV, CMT, BET, VH1 (music channels) or any radio station could ever accomplish. Which is putting out a hit playlist that consist of Lady Gaga, Elton John, Black Eyed Peas, Bon Jovi, Talylor Swift, Beyonce, Dave Mathews Band, Micheal Jackson, some Opera Guy and Eminem. The question I found myself asking, is how do they pull this off? And the answer is; it's not about the undeniable differences in the people/artist who were there. It's not about personal preferences or endorsing one genre over the other. It's about Music. Something everyone there in attendance and the millions of viewers Love. It's when I realized that, that I found myself thinking "I wish the church could be more like the Grammys." Moving beyond our personal differences and preferences. Pushing through the obvious and embracing what's most important. Creating an environment where the one thing that's consistent is our Love for God. Perhaps when we reach that point, we'll begin seeing non believers in attendance as well.
John 12:32 (TNIV)
32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.
