What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. - James 2:14-17
The answer to James' rhetorical question in verse fourteen is obviously no. Yet the way we often respond to devastation in our world, has us answering "yes." It's as if we fail to recognize the call to action within our faith. The opportunity inviting us to be apart of the greatest story ever told. To be a Disciple of Jesus. Meaning to live a life of compassion and sacrifice just as Jesus lived. The type of living that wouldn't tolerate a Human Trafficking Industry that profits 32 billion dollars each year. Which is why we must do something about it! For if faith without action is dead, let us choose life and the opportunity to rescue the lives of many unfortunate women and children.
Saturday August 28th, Victory Church in Norman and the Beautiful Dream Society will be hosting "Traffic Jam" - a free concert to End Human Trafficking. The event is from 7-10pm and childcare will be provided. Below is more information about Beautiful Dream Society.
"Our goal is to raise awareness, take legal action where appropriate, and offer rehabilitation services to rescued victims of human trafficking in order to fight this injustice from a comprehensive approach. Additionally, we want to branch out to address this issue from a preventative standpoint, to cripple the human trafficking trade.
Surrounded by South Africa, in the tiny mountain kingdom of Lesotho with the third highest HIV infection rate in the world where 29.8% are HIV positive, trafficking in women, boys and girls is thriving for reasons of sexual exploitation, pornography, domestic servitude, forced labour and other criminal activities. At the Beautiful Dream Society, through our Project Center and Crisis Care Shelter in Ladybrand, South Africa our dream is to see lives made beautiful. Anyone can join – everyone can make a difference."
